Is our jewelry waterproof?
Yes. Maison de l'Amour jewelry is made of gold stainless steel: you can keep it on in the shower, at the beach, in the pool and at the gym. It does not tarnish, does not turn your skin green and does not release nickel. The only exception: pieces with freshwater pearls, which are more delicate (see below).

Why it does not tarnish
Two reasons. The base is stainless steel, a metal that does not rust or oxidise in water. And the gold colour is applied with a PVD process: it is bonded to the metal and does not flake like a thin plated layer.

Nickel-free, for sensitive skin
Stainless steel does not release nickel, the most common cause of jewelry allergies. Our jewelry is suitable for sensitive skin and for ears that react to fashion earrings. More in our article on sensitive skin and allergies.
How to keep it shiny
- After the sea or the pool, rinse with clear water and dry with a soft cloth.
- To restore the shine, a little warm soapy water and a cloth are enough. Avoid abrasive products.
- Store each piece separately to avoid scratches.

Frequently asked questions
Can I swim with my jewelry?
Yes, in the sea and in the pool. Just rinse it with clear water afterwards: salt and chlorine do not damage it but dull its shine if they dry on it.
Will the gold colour wear off over time?
Not with normal wear: PVD gold resists water and sweat. Only repeated rubbing against hard surfaces (keyboard, ring against ring) can mark it in the long run.
Can my jewelry turn my skin green?
No. Green marks come from the copper in the brass of plated jewelry. Stainless steel contains none.
