The clasp is the centerpiece that ensures the security and comfort of your jewelry. The lobster clasp is the champion of security for necklaces. The toggle clasp is ideal for attaching a bracelet with one hand while adding an aesthetic touch. Finally, the sliding clasp allows you to adjust your jewelry to the millimeter. The advantage at Maison de l'Amour? Our stainless steel mechanisms do not rust in the shower, guaranteeing a spring that always works.
1. The Unsung Hero: Why the clasp is crucial
We spend a lot of time choosing the perfect pendant or the ideal chain link, but we often forget the clasp. Yet, it's what determines whether you'll wear that piece of jewelry every day or if it will stay at the bottom of the drawer because it's "too complicated to put on."
Even worse: a low-quality brass clasp eventually rusts from the inside due to humidity or perspiration. The tiny spring breaks, and that's when you lose your favorite necklace without even realizing it. This is why all Maison de l'Amour clasps are made of stainless steel: the internal mechanism is waterproof and will not let you down.
2. The Clasp Guide: Which one to choose?
For each piece of jewelry, there's an ideal fastening system. Here's our breakdown of our 3 favorite clasps.
The Lobster Clasp: Absolute Security
It's the most common clasp, and for good reason: it's the safest. It takes the form of a small claw that opens with a small lever.
Ideal use: Necklaces (because you have both hands to fasten it behind your neck) and delicate chains. It guarantees that the jewelry will never open accidentally.
The Toggle Clasp: Practical Aesthetics
It consists of a ring on one side and a T-shaped bar on the other. The bar slides into the ring and locks naturally.
Ideal use: Bracelets, especially chunky chains. No more 10-minute struggle in the morning: it attaches very easily with one hand! Moreover, this clasp is so beautiful that you don't hesitate to wear it at the front, as a design element in itself.
The Sliding Clasp (Adjustable Ball)
It works with a small bead that allows the chain to slide to lengthen or shorten it.
Ideal use: Bracelets (which adapt to all wrist sizes) and necklaces (ideal for adjusting the height to the millimeter if you are doing Layering of several necklaces). Discover an example with our Emiliana necklace.
| Clasp Type | Security Level | Ease with one hand (Bracelet) |
|---|---|---|
| Lobster Clasp | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Maximum) | ⭐⭐ (Requires a little dexterity) |
| Toggle Clasp | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Very good) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Easiest) |
| Sliding Clasp | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Very good) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Very easy to tighten) |
3. Maison de l'Amour Tip: How to fasten a bracelet by yourself?
Did you fall in love with a lobster clasp bracelet but are alone when it comes to putting it on? Here's the infallible paperclip trick:
- Unfold a simple metal paperclip.
- Pass one end of the paperclip through the ring of your bracelet (the side without the clasp).
- Hold the other end of the paperclip in the hand of the wrist you want to adorn (to hold the bracelet in place).
- With your free hand, simply open the lobster clasp and attach it to the stationary ring. And there you go!
